Setting a filled pen down on a desk is how a desk gets stained. A pen rest holds the barrel in two saddles with the nib raised about 8 degrees, so ink in the feed draws back rather than creeping forward, and the pen cannot roll.
This one is milled from a single piece of brass bar, 90 mm long, 42 mm across the saddles, 210 g. The saddles are cut to a shallow vee rather than a radius so they take any barrel between 8 and 16 mm without rocking, and both are lined with a 1 mm wool felt bonded with a contact adhesive — not glued at the edges, which eventually lifts.
The underside is relieved and fitted with three cork pads so it sits flat on an uneven desk. The brass is bead-blasted to a matte finish rather than polished, which hides fingerprints and takes a patina evenly. The mark is engraved into one end face.
