Three divisions, 260 mm wide, with the dividers rising from 70 mm at the front to 130 mm at the back, so the contents of each is visible over the one in front. The sides and dividers are 10 mm walnut; the rails that join them are 6 mm brass rod, pressed and pinned rather than glued.
The three divisions are for the three states post is actually in: arrived and unopened, opened and needing an answer, answered and waiting to go. Two divisions is not enough and four is a filing system.
The back division is 35 mm deep, which takes a thick C4 envelope or a small book. The brass rods are left bright and will patina to match the opener and the blotter if you own those. Finished in hard-wax oil with four cork feet. It is designed to be refinished: the rods drive out and the whole thing comes apart in four pieces.
