Five wickless sticks, 95 by 11 mm, in a flexible modern sealing wax formulation coloured to match Registry Violet. Wickless is the right choice for a spoon and the wrong one for direct flame; there is no wick to char and no soot, but it has to be melted in a vessel rather than dripped.
Flexible wax matters if the letter is going in the post. Traditional shellac-and-rosin wax is beautiful and brittle, and it shatters in a sorting machine. This formulation holds an impression just as sharply and will take a fold without cracking.
One stick gives roughly six to eight seals at a normal 25 mm size. The colour is matched to the ink, so a violet seal on a violet-edged card with a violet-lined envelope is a set — which is either the entire point or far too much, depending on the letter. Five sticks per pack.
