A stub is a nib ground flat and wide across the tip rather than round, so a horizontal stroke is wide and a vertical one is narrow, and the variation comes from direction rather than from pressure. It is the easiest way to make ordinary handwriting look considered, because nothing about how you write has to change.

This one is ground to 1.1 mm across with the corners eased to about a 0.2 mm radius. Un-eased corners — a true italic — give sharper line variation and catch on every cross-stroke until your hand learns not to rotate. The eased version is forgiving enough for daily use and keeps roughly 80 per cent of the effect.

Cross-stroke measures 1.10 mm, down-stroke 0.38 mm, a ratio just under three to one. Ground by hand on a fine wheel and finished on a ceramic hone. Fits every No. 6 pen. Written-tested with the card in the box.
