A smaller version of the sample rack, without the rack. Four 4 ml vials of the colours that account for most of what leaves this shop: Registry Violet, Iron Gall Document Blue-Black, Sepia Copy Ink and Clerk’s Grey. They sit in a die-cut card wallet that fits a coat pocket, with a swatch panel printed on the inside cover.
These four were not picked for variety; they were picked because they cover the four jobs. Violet for letters, blue-black for anything that must last, sepia for cream paper, grey for annotation. If you buy nothing else, one of these four is almost certainly the ink you will use most.
The iron gall vial is marked with a band because it is the one that needs flushing discipline — see its own description. The wallet is 400 gsm board, uncoated, and takes a note in pen if you want to label what went where.
